About Me

First and foremost, I consider myself a plant geek.  I've found that few things really have the power to get me fired up and excited like plants can - and I'm as lucky as anyone can be to have a career with something that I'm this passionate about.  While claiming every single day at work is a joyride would be crazy - I will say that on most days, I'd do it for free.

My job involves the actual growing of over 1 million perennial plants per year for sale to Independent Garden Centers and Landscapers for Sunny Border Nurseries, Inc.  I also oversee the planning, growing, and to some extent, the marketing of our line of Tropicals and Annuals.  This program, known as Temperennials (Sunny Border's CEO, Pierre Bennerup, was the first to use this term, now used industry-wide), is without a doubt where my heart truly lies at the moment.  I'm guessing that's because it's still relatively new to me - I've only been doing non-hardy plants for several years now.

We are known for having a ridiculously expansive lineup of plants, and at last check, we have a broader inventory of perennial plants than any other wholesaler in the country.  Getting to see this many different varieties on a day-in, day-out basis has really shown me which ones are the keepers and which ones you'll probably want to avoid.

Bottom line - growing is fun!  I'm not really into just sitting back in the garden and having a cocktail, admiring my plants.  I'm way more into having a cocktail and working in the garden - planting, relocating, weeding, pruning, whatever.  It's a performance art.
